SONS OF RA

Sons of Ra formed in Chicago in 2000 as a collaborative experimental instrumental musical project. The identity and lineup of the band morphed considerably during the 2000s playing around the midwest, experimenting with mixing electronic music with straight ahead and hard bop influences. The band went on a brief hiatus and returned in 2014 as a trio. The current line up embraces their roots in jazz fusion, heavier progressive music with a bend for experimentation in their newest compositions, drawing from Return to Forever, Mahavishnu Orchestra, King Crimson, Frank Zappa, avant-garde composition inspired by Glenn Branca, and post metal/math acts such as Russian Circles and Don Caballero, occasionally incorporating extreme metal references from bands such as Cynic, Blotted Science and Behold… the Arctopus.

CONFLUX

Conflux fuses loose jazz improvisation with raw heavy metal brutality (plus a keen ear for songcraft) into a sound that is all at once sophisticated and accessible. Transforming the already-lofty genre of Jazz-Metal, the quartet consistently challenges the notion that “art” and “entertainment” are two separate entities, producing songs that are just as groovy as they are cerebral.

COYOTE MAN

An instrumental experimental/progressive rock trio from Chicago’s south side, Coyote Man is a savage display of aggressive riff based guitar anchored to a concrete foundation of drums and bass. Made up of guitarist Augie Portugal, bassist Terry Lee Jones, and drummer Ian Wheeler, Coyote Man made their debut with a self-titled album in January 2017. Since its release, with passionate, powerful performances, Coyote Man has been showcasing their album in the Midwest and beyond.

FAADE

Faade is a Chicago-based four piece instrumental group.
