Formed in Chicago in 2008, ANATOMY OF HABIT is composed of some of the city’s finest musicians: MARK SOLOTROFF (Bloodyminded) on vocals, JOHN McENTIRE (Tortoise, The Sea & Cake) on drums, THEO KATSAOUNIS (Joan of Arc) on percussion, KENNY RASMUSSEN (ex-Radar Eyes) on bass, and WILL LINDSAY (Indian) on guitar. Their 2014 Relapse debut, Ciphers + Axioms, is an intensely terrifying, tranced-out post-metal noise-rock masterpiece. Fronted by noise icon Solotoroff’s baritone vocal poetics, ANATOMY OF HABIT trudges through two twenty-plus minute epics of tensely monolithic walls of guitar and percussion, staking their claim amongst SWANS and NEUROSIS as being one of the most unique and truly gifted post-metal heavy bands of our time. Bring your plugs on this one, amigos.

It’s been nearly two years since Chicago post-metal staples DEL REY last graced our stage. With two drummers, three guitarists and no vocals, DEL REY break through the rafters and fly through the skies of Chicago on brooding yet ethereal clouds of distortion. Their last record, Immemorial, out on At A Loss Recordings, saw the outfit building on the cosmic soundscapes and epic odysseys of their previous work. After a year spent touring behind the LP, including European dates and a turn at the Primavera Festival, the band called it quits and left Chicago aching for their soaring distortion. We’re excited to hear what new material they’ll be releasing on album number five (later this year), along with the old classics we heard live nearly three dozen times from 1997-2011.

MATT JENCIK is an ambient-drone artist who also currently plays guitar in the band IMPLODES.
